Youthful Dance
Local programs support children and their dreams

A passion for dance often emerges during childhood. It is the optimal time in one’s life to begin dancing in order to develop strength, passion, discipline and structure. Several San Diego dance groups have been formed in order to focus on children. Dance teachers now realize that dance is a tool for learning, offering something truly unique, unlike anything taught in school. Not only does dance promote strength and balance as we grow, it promotes self confidence.
Many of our local dance companies and organizations are huge promoters of youth-oriented dance. Among those is Butterworth Dance Company, which created Binary. Butterworth’s Rayna Stohl began working with teenagers at Canyon Crest Academy this past year, and ever since she started was hooked on the idea of a youth company. Along with Traves Butterworth, artistic director, they created a foundation for a youth dance organization directly linked with the adult Butterworth Dance Company.
