This issue marks Dance San Diego’s one-year anniversary! I want to thank everyone in the community who has helped support and continues to help support this publication and all of the many things we try to do for the dance community as a whole. Without your support and appreciation, my little labor of love would not exist. So thank you!
San Diego is a melting pot of dance forms, and bringing them together has always been my dream. Creating a buzz about performances and classes is one of the magazine’s goals. Educating people on how to treat their dance companies as businesses is another goal. For any of this to work, we all need to work together, supporting each other’s dreams and visions.
As DSD embarks on a new year of delivering the most essential dance news and information in our area, we would like to announce the launch of a new campaign initiative geared toward increasing the vitality of our dance community. That is why Dance San Diego is celebrating August as Dance Appreciation Month (ADAM)!
All local dance organizations recognize the importance and need to generate more public interest in the art of dance. DSD believes this can be accomplished through executing a powerful media campaign. The annual Celebrate Dance Festival in Balboa Park each August is such a significant event, it’s a logical choice to base August Dance Appreciation Month within the same month.
DSD and Mina Communications are jointly leading promotion efforts for this campaign. But for this effort to be most effective, dance community involvement is crucial. All dance companies and schools will benefit from promoting Dance Appreciation Month, and each can help by using their standard communication outlets such as Web sites, e-mail blasts, newsletters, etc. Through promoting Dance Appreciation Month, you’ll have another reason to promote your business over the summer months.
For a few ways the campaign can be used to your advantage, please visit www.dance-sandiego.com and click on August Dance Appreciation Month. Thank you!
Happy reading!
